Audio: Mental Health: A Discussion on Stress

In the audio below, Ms. Roberta Kekle Selormey, a clinical psychologist and researcher with experience in the treatment and care of abused and vulnerable persons, was invited to speak on stress at the Young Adults’ Fellowship (YAF) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) in the Netherlands/Belgium district. She is currently a psycho-social support service provider at The Orange Center, a psycho-social support center under United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and a counseling services manager at Dialogue Genitalia Ghana, an NGO that seeks to educate individuals of various age groups on matters relating to mental and sexual reproductive health. Her interest is in contributing to the well-being of victims of abuse as well as providing exceptional care and treatment plans for persons with varying mental health illnesses.

During her presentation, Ms. Selormey highlighted that stress is a normal part of human function. However, she stressed that managing stress to a minimal level is better, as high levels can be detrimental to our health. She described the human system that is activated in stressful situations, discussed the negative effects of stress, and gave some tips on how we can manage stress.
