In this write-up I critically examine some popular beliefs about receiving the Holy Spirit when I was growing up as a young Christian. I examine the sources of these beliefs by challenges some cultural beliefs about how spirits posses people. I examine the scriptures and answer four important question: Who can receive the Holy Spirit, When does a person receive the Spirit, What shows that a person has the Holy Spirit and Does a person has control if they have the Holy Spirit?
